Mrs. Ilyinskii
Before I knew that I wanted to become a teacher I entertained the idea of being a visual artist. I attended Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, a school for art and education. In my first year of college I fell in love with teaching. I can still remember my first class in education, Literacy Learning. In this class I learned the basics of teaching reading and I was inspired to help students like myself, a former struggling reader.
True Story: I attended a private school for my elementary education. My first grade teacher didn't teach me to read because I was "immature." I entered second grade not knowing how to read, but I still wanted to learn. By the time I entered 4th grade I could read, but I was behind my peers. I was petrified to read out loud because my 4th grade reading teacher would call us "stupid" every time we made a mistake. Yet I persevered and discovered a personal love for books. I understand how frustrating learning to read can be, especially when you really want to learn. I decided to become a reading specialist to help students, like myself, discover a love for reading and become confident readers and writers. I earned my bachelor's decree in elementary education and history from Lesley University. After graduation I remained at Lesley University to complete a mater's program to become a reading specialist. I currently work as a reading specialist in the Braintree Public Schools. In my free time I enjoy walking my dog, Maggie; dancing with my talking parrot, Gosha; practicing yoga, painting, playing guitar, and traveling. Contact me: [email protected] |
